“Christmas came and went
uneventfully, or did it? But, where did all of this stuff come from?” Megan, the
mother of seven-year old twins, was sorting through her children’s new toys. “I
did not buy this video game for my son. Neither did my husband. It is not age
appropriate. Neither is this one. I do not approve of this kind of violence!”
She became increasingly alarmed
at what she found.
“That collection of dvds is rated mature
adult, not something children their age should watch.” Megan
made a mental note to ask Brad about what she had found.
Brad and Brandy were wonderful
children who looked very much alike because of their freckles and red hair.
They were full of fun and mischief. Everyone adored them, but perhaps too much,
at times. Megan had become cautious about where they went.
“We didn’t buy this for Brad,
or that!” she said. “Where did he get this stuff?”
Megan went through all of
the gifts and found one thing after another that should not have been there.
“Where did Brandy get an eighteen inch angel, a Christmas tree top, a bright,
red bikini and a huge, box of red Christmas balls? Something is not right! Our
parents did not give Brandy these things. They would not do that to a
child. She did not receive this at the school concert, either.”
Then Megan found a huge, brand
new case full of expensive make-up.
“This is ridiculous! My daughter is only
seven years old! I’ll have to speak to our babysitter!” Megan
became even angrier when she found a large tin of liquor-filled chocolates.
“Brandy for Brandy,” the card read. “We’ll going to have fun on New Year’s
Eve!”
The signature on the card was
not legible.
“I don’t think so,” decided
Megan. She packed everything into a large box. “My husband will be back from the
hockey game shortly, and then, we’ll confront the children. They may be stealing,
but I doubt it. We are changing our New Year’s Eve plans, too. They won’t
include a babysitter and her boyfriend.”
