“That valentine is so funny!”
said an old man, wearing a black, bike helmet, as he walked up to the
counter and smiled at the young clerk. “My Mabel will be thrilled. Those
red roses and that box of Belgian chocolates too, please?”
He quickly paid her and headed
for the door.
“This valentine is perfect!”
thought Chloe, a sixteen-year old, who was also looking at valentines. “This
will be my funny valentine!” She was determined to impress
her new boyfriend, Tim. She felt elated thinking that she had just found the
right valentine for him. “It’s too soon to give him
a romantic valentine. I want him to remember this Valentine’s Day,
forever. He’ll never forget this funny one!”
Chloe had just gone through
every valentine on the shelf wondering if she would find one Tim
would like. A wave of relief flooded through her. Moments later, second
thoughts raced through her head. “Maybe it’s not funny enough?”
She quickly put it back on the
shelf.
“That one’s not
funny either,” thought Chloe. “Neither is that one. I think this is funny, but,
will he?” she wondered, picking up another card.
“My goodness,” said Martha, a
middle-aged woman, as she found a valentine. “This is the funniest valentine in
the entire world. It’s hilarious!”
“Pierre !” she said to her husband. “Isn’t it a
riot?”
“Maybe that’s what I
should buy too?” Chloe wondered. “Tim,’ she said, moments later,
as he suddenly appeared. “I didn’t expect to see you here!”
“Oh, hey there,” Tim replied. “I
need a box of valentines for my sisters. Oh, I just found my funny valentine
too. I cannot show you this one. Have to run!”
Moments later, he left.
Suddenly, Chloe knew exactly
which valentine she was going to get from Tim, for Valentine’s Day.
The one he had purchased was
the one she had just placed back on the shelf.
“Now this is so funny!” she
said. “My funny valentine, I knew it was right, for me.”
