Playmates: The Lucky Seven
“Hey there,” said Max, gazing at another pup in the wicker basket in front of the fireplace. “Last time I opened my eyes, it was just me. You must be my brother. That is so wonderful! We can be playmates.”
“Hi, I'm Moe,” replied his little brother, sleepily. “Great to meet you, brother.”
“Call me Max. You look like me, but I'm smaller.”
“You have big feet so you will grow bigger than I will.”
Moments later, a third pup appeared.
“Hey Moe, we have a little sister!” said Max, excitedly. “What’s your name, sweetie? I'll find a pink ribbon with a bell for you, so you don’t get lost.”
“I'm Molly,” she said sweetly, as she opened her eyes and peered up. “Will you play with me?”
“We sure will,” replied Max. “We love you already. Right, Moe?”
“And our little brother too,” added Moe. “Who are you?” he asked the tiny pup who had just appeared as if out of nowhere. “This is all happening too fast for me!”
“Just call me Marcus,” he said, as he looked at them, with huge, brown eyes. “I am the runt of the litter. Does that matter?”
“Of course not,” replied Max, who could not believe his good fortune. “I am lucky to have all of you as my playmates.”
Three more sisters, Madison, Misty and Molly were also born that morning. Each pup was a little bit different. Thankfully, they were all healthy and happy.
Moments later, Minnie, the mother of the newborn pups, hopped into the wicker basket. The father, Mickey, stretched out in front of the fire. They were both as proud as punch.
“The lucky seven,” Mickey said to Minnie, who smiled.
“I am hungry,” said Max. “When do we get to eat?”
“Yes, when?” yelped Moe, Molly, Marcus, Madison, Misty and Maggie, in unison.
"Wake up, pups!" said Minnie, who knew that she was going to be busy with a litter of seven pups. "It’s time for lunch."
